Ertuğrul Ghazi: The Unsung Hero Who Shaped History
Who was Ertugrul?
Ertugrul Ghazi was a lion-hearted man who led the 13th-century Turkish tribes, known as the Ottoman Empire. Born into the Kayı tribe, a branch of the Oghuz Turks, he dreamed of building a new state after seeing the fall of the Seljuk Empire and the tyranny of the Mongols. And he devoted his whole life to fulfilling that dream. All the hard work was done by him and his son Uthman therefore continued the work and established a strong state.
• Hailing from West Central Asia, Ertuğrul and his tribe decided to relocate to a place where they could go or have a future, and that's where Ertuğrul Gazi chose a very good place. Which was in Anatolia, a region under Byzantine rule. His leadership and strategic acumen quickly became evident as he united the scattered Turkic tribes and established a strong foothold in the region.
• Although what we know about Ertugrul Ghazi is based on oral traditions and historical chronicles written centuries later, his legacy as a visionary leader and symbol of Turkish and Islamic unity endures. The Ottoman Empire, which grew under his son Osman I into one of the world's largest empires, was called the Ottoman Empire.
